Enjoy the advantage of having
your own "home base" in the
Austrian Alps from which you can make day trips and/or
ocassional overnighters to Munich, (2 hours)

See, (45 minutes, Herrenchiemsee, (one of
Ludwig's castles, the small version of Versailles, 2 hours),

Slovenia, (1.5 hours) Czech
Republich, (3 hours)
Salzkammergut, (2 hours), and many, many, other sightseeing
opportunities nearby, in addition to the great winter sports
(downhill and cross country) and hiking trails to
picturesque
alms.
Other great Austrian ski
areas, Kitzbuehl, Flachau, (home of the
Herminator, Herman Maier), Schladming,
Saalbach,
Obertauern, etc. all within 2
hours drive.
How to get
there: Best routing from USA is
to fly into Munich and rent a car there. The
drive to Mühlbach is
approximately 2.5 hours. From airport, take Autobahn in
direction of
Salzburg. Flights to Salzburg via
Frankfurt also available
At first turnoff past Austrian
border right turn onto Autobahn
A-10 in direction of Italy,
Slovenia, Villach, etc. Autobahn will pass through several
tunnels going into the Alps. After the last tunnel, just
past the Werfen Castle, (image above) the Autobahn widens to
three lanes (each direction).
A few kilometers up the hill
there is a right turnoff to
Bishofshofen, Mühlbach, Dienten, etc. Down the hill a few kilometers, there is a
right turnoff to Bishofshofen,
Mühlbach, Dienten, etc.
Follow the road across the river and up the mountain 10
kilometers to Mühlbach.
At the beginning of the village,
before downtown, is a sharp right turn onto the Mandlwandstrasse. Proceed up this road several kilometers past the
soccer field to the next left
turn (Oberwirt sign) into a small
street between two houses, around the corner past a few more
houses and the Alpendomizil comes into view. After parking, go to the
Hausmeisters apartment (Haus I, ground floor), follow the
signs to "Hausmeister" and ring the bell. Gustav and Dominic speak English.

In the village below there are
several restaurants and cafes, two banks, an ATM, small
supermarket, bakery, butcher shop, Post Office, Catholic
Church, historical museum (copper mining), doctor's office,
pharmacy, (an emergency hospital is located in Schwarzach,
25 minutes away). Bishofshofen, 6 miles away, has a number
of large supermarkets, service stations, train depot, and
shopping opportunities. Ski season bus to lifts available.
Summer season, bus to hiking areas available. There are also
several excellent restaurants up the hill from
Alpendomizil.
Whether it is skiing or hiking,
one of the best Alpine Alm experiences is the
Tiergartenalm
