Enjoy the advantage of having your own "home base" in the Austrian Alps from which you can make day trips and/or ocassional overnighters to Munich, (2 hours) Salzburg, (1 hour ) Berchtesgaden, (1 hour) Bad Reichenhall, (1.5 hours) Zell am See, (45 minutes, Herrenchiemsee, (one of Ludwig's castles, the small version of Versailles, 2 hours), Italy, (1.5 hours) Venice, ( 4.5 hours) Vienna, (4 hours) Slovenia, (1.5 hours) Czech Republich, (3 hours) Salzkammergut, (2 hours), and many, many, other sightseeing opportunities nearby, in addition to the great winter sports (downhill and cross country) and hiking trails to picturesque alms.

Other great Austrian ski areas, Kitzbuehl, Flachau, (home of the Herminator, Herman Maier), Schladming, Saalbach, Obertauern, etc. all within 2 hours drive.

How to get there: Best routing from USA is to fly into Munich and rent a car there. The drive to Mühlbach is approximately 2.5 hours. From airport, take Autobahn in direction of Salzburg. Flights to Salzburg via Frankfurt also available

At first turnoff past Austrian border right turn onto Autobahn A-10 in direction of Italy, Slovenia, Villach, etc. Autobahn will pass through several tunnels going into the Alps. After the last tunnel, just past the Werfen Castle, (site of movie, "Where Eagles Dare) the Autobahn widens to three lanes (each direction).

A few kilometers up the hill there is a right turnoff to Bishofshofen, Mühlbach, Dienten, etc. Down the hill a few kilometers, there is a right turnoff to Bishofshofen, Mühlbach, Dienten, etc. Follow the road across the river and up the mountain 10 kilometers to Mühlbach.

At the beginning of the village, before downtown, is a sharp right turn onto the Mandlwandstrasse. Proceed up this road several kilometers past the soccer field to the next left turn (Oberwirt sign) into a small street between two houses, around the corner past a few more houses and the Alpendomizil comes into view. After parking, go to the Hausmeisters apartment (Haus I, ground floor), follow the signs to "Hausmeister" and ring the bell. Gustav and Dominic speak English.

In the village below there are several restaurants and cafes, two banks, an ATM, small supermarket, bakery, butcher shop, Post Office, Catholic Church, historical museum (copper mining), doctor's office, pharmacy, (an emergency hospital is located in Schwarzach, 25 minutes away). Bishofshofen, 6 miles away, has a number of large supermarkets, service stations, train depot, and shopping opportunities. Ski season bus to lifts available. Summer season, bus to hiking areas available. There are also several excellent restaurants up the hill from Alpendomizil.

Whether it is skiing or hiking, one of the best Alpine Alm experiences is the Tiergartenalm

(laundry room and public telephone available in building)
